Urban

Well, you can’t quite classify our little South-Central PA town as “urban” but our downtown is pretty cool. Despite living here the majority of my life taking a stroll with the crew always leads to discovering something new. 2018-5-Blog-50992018-5-Blog-51042018-5-Blog-51142018-5-Blog-51202018-5-Blog-51232018-5-Blog-51432018-5-Blog-5164

Lines

Lines are such an integral compositional element in photography which are used to lead the eye and frame the subject. For this month’s “lines” theme I opted to embrace the lines in the natural elements of my environment. While these lines are not perfectly straight, I find them powerful.

Contrast

One of the most striking and intriguing elements of photography for me is the use of contrasting light and dark. Shadows, reflections, light rays all highlight the unique qualities of light which are emphasized through the lens.

In this case, the fog machine enables the eye and camera to see otherwise invisible light and further amplifies the contrast.

The kids each wanted “their own” turn playing in the sunny fog. It’s amazing how the brief moments they were there truly highlighted their personalities. From my heart-filled oldest, to my carefree middle, to my rambunctious littlest (and yes, one is missing! He happened to be at a hockey game.)

Color

Winter typically brings thoughts of bleak landscapes and barren trees (at least here in South-Central PA!), but this year I’ve been particularly struck by the depth and richness of the colors, the reflections, the contrast. So as the light is bent by all it encounters and refracts color, we are reminded that even when our surroundings seem lifeless, beauty thrives.

Winter Light

Ever since I was a first grader who entered the nurses office with purple fingers after walking to school, cold has really not been my thing. But this year, a year of awakening to light, I am embracing the temperatures for the beauty. I’m grasping the moments as the frigid air fills my lungs and my shutter clicks to recognize and appreciate the life in me and around me.

The first three images were taken on the Winter Solstice with the Lensbaby Velvet 56.

These three were taken with the Lensbaby Edge 50 Optic (a much appreciated Christmas present!) 2018-1-ShareSix-09152018-1-ShareSix-12562018-1-ShareSix-1258

Wonderland

“Wonderland” elicits images of lines of snow-capped trees with brilliant sunlight illuminating the flakes, reflecting the sparkle. While we are missing the white stuff, we found a little glimmer amidst the pines on our annual Christmas tree adventure. And wonder, there’s always wonder…

Harvest

Yes, it’s harvest time. While many of the local crops have been pulled from the fields, our friends provided us the opportunity to glean pumpkins from their rich farm nestled against the mountains. It couldn’t have been more gorgeous and we honestly could not be more thankful. God provides.
